Describe the website
List the platform, runtime, plugins or dependencies, content size, expected audience, and any third-party connections. Existing sites should also note current storage use and traffic patterns.
Decide how much to manage
A managed hosting environment can reduce routine server work but may constrain software choices. A VPS gives more control and asks for operating-system administration. Choose based on who will own updates, backups, security, and recovery.
Compare the whole service
Look beyond the introductory price. Confirm renewals, backups, migrations, SSL, email, support coverage, resource limits, and overage rules. Ask what support includes and what is out of scope.
Prepare a move safely
Keep a verified copy of files and databases, lower DNS TTL in advance when appropriate, test the destination, and choose a migration window. Retain the old service until the new site and email are confirmed.
